Livestock Counter

Eliminates human error with the latest in machine learning.

the problem

Livestock Counting

The process of livestock counting is costly and susceptible to human error. Observing animals passing through a race can be tedious over long periods of time. The discrepancy in counts between both sides of the transaction may also cause dispute. This device will save time and cost of manual counting, and will reduce the time to resolve counting discrepancies.

The automated livestock counting solution, developed by Pioneer and the Livestock Export RD&E Program (a collaboration between LiveCorp and Meat & Livestock Australia), with technology from UTS, has clearly demonstrated its strong commercial value in its potential to make livestock export trade transactions more accurate. Having sought such a solution for many years, Pioneer is now in a position to provide the AI-based video solution to livestock export companies, saleyards, producers and transport operators worldwide.

Up to 2 million sheep are exported annually, and up to 20 million sold through sale yards. These numbers takes workers days to count and inevitable errors in total count occur.

Our Solution

The Livestock Counter

Our patented designed Pioneer 5G AI Livestock Counting Mobile Station is a world first in livestock counting utilising machine learning. The counter itself comes in the form of an app installed on a Pioneer 5G camera, which is then mounted on Pioneer’s custom engineered solution. The app is easy to use and accessible via local wifi or remotely anywhere in the world via 5G network.

The mount is designed specifically for the tough conditions of a port and is truly a set-and-forget solution. From the pneumatic telescopic pole to the advanced peltier cooler, this mount combines the latest technologies to simply make lives easier.

Unprecedented 99% Accuracy

Using the latest in AI Machine Learning, the Pioneer and UTS team have acheived a 99% accuracy. This is simply unobtainable with any other method of counting. Using a remote connection, users are even able to see the livestock recognised by the AI as it counts livestock in and out.

precise control

Telescopic Pole

The control box (as seen above) controls power, an air pump and the floodlight. The air pump controls the pneumatic pole, allowing it to be set to any height to allow for any scenario. This, combined with the floodlight makes it very adaptable to all conditions and setups.

Sturdy Base

Strong And Reliable Base

Keeping the unit stable and operational is paramount. The livestock counter is supported by a sturdy base to house the battery, control unit and the air compressor to control the telescopic pole.

Device Holder

Works In All Conditions

With a bright light and active cooling for the device, this mounting solution ensures the sheep counter can do work night and day, with no issues with low light. Additionally, a large cone is built in to allow for a wide view of the livestock race for minimal error.

The active cooling comes in the form of two fans and a powerful sub-ambient cooler using peltier technology. This is supported by a state of the art reflective material which covers the housing
